About Lynn Thomas Johnson

Boston attorney Lynn Thomas Johnson’s newly expanded practice concentrates on family matters and domestic law and criminal defense.

Throughout his career, Johnson has made it a priority to reach out to communities traditionally under-served by the legal profession, including those who identify as LGBT, youth, people with mental illness, and indigent defendants.

Through programs such as the Zealous Advocacy course sponsored by the Committee for Public Counsel Services, attorney Johnson continuously updates his knowledge and training to better meet the needs of constituencies traditionally under-served by the legal profession.

He is involved in several community and professional organizations, including:

  • Massachusetts and Boston Bar associations
  • LGBTQ Bar Association
  • Association of Trial Lawyers of America
  • Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, Rhenquist Inn
  • Friends of the Public Garden and Common
  • Greater Boston Business Council

Johnson has tried civil and criminal cases before state and federal courts.

He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1984 after earning a Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, in 1983 from Suffolk Law. He also received a Master of Laws degree in Taxation in 1984 from the Boston University School of Law.

Before leading his own practice, he served as senior trial attorney for Bretta & Grimaldi, P.A.

Previously, he spent several years as an associate in area law firms, handling cases of increasing complexity.

Johnson began his career in 1984 as assistant corporation counsel for the City of Boston Legal Department.
